How can your student rep help you?

Your student representatives act as the 'Voice' for their student group. One of their primary roles is to collect feedback from their peers and liaise with staff at CNELM to ensure their voice is heard. Student Reps will then feed relevant information back to their peers, ensuring a two-way communication channel between CNELM staff and students at all times.

At CNELM we take our commitment to quality monitoring seriously and our students are a big part of that monitoring process - without feedback, we do not know how the courses are being received, nor whether we are providing the best service we can for our students.

There are typically two Student Reps for each level of the degree programmes and two for the Nutritional Therapy Practice Diploma.  You can find a list of all the Student Reps, including their pictures, on Moodle. Meanwhile, their names and email addresses are included below:

Student BANT Membership

All students enrolled on CNELM courses are required to be student members of BANT, so if you have not already done so, please send your completed Application Form to Dave Lee as soon as possible. BANT membership provides many resources that you will need to be able to access for your course of study.

Group Mentoring Sessions to Start 21st April

Starting this month CNELM will be running group mentoring sessions open to all students.

The sessions will be run webinar-style via GoToMeeting, with presentations on a chosen topic area followed by group discussion and Q&A.  Numbers will be limited to 10 per session and each session will last 1 hour.

Group mentoring sessions are an opportunity for students to engage with peers, support their professional development and academic progression and obtain information and/or guidance on a specialised topic.

The first session starts on 21st April - please register your attendance on this Doodle link.
It appears that many of you may not be aware of the correct protocol for naming assignments and submitting front cover sheets.  Failure to submit a front cover sheet with your summative assignment, or to name your files correctly, can significantly delay your marking and feedback.

The assignment front cover sheet is available to download on Moodle (within 'General Availability') along with instructions on how to name your assignments correctly.  There is also a link to this area from within each Module within the Summative Assignment section, called: Assessment Regulations, Policy and Cover Sheet.  Please ensure that you familiarise yourselves with the correct procedure otherwise this may delay the marking and feedback of your assignments.
We are hosting another ‘Labs Day’ at CNELM from 10.30am to 1.00pm on Wednesday 6th May.

Representatives from six testing laboratories will be attending and students will be able to visit each stand for a set time, to meet the lab representatives and find out more about their tests and obtain further information.  It is an excellent opportunity to ask questions directly to the laboratory representatives about their tests, and students in the past have found this extremely helpful.

All students from Level 5 upwards are invited to attend this event. The event is also open to graduates and staff who are available that day.
The following labs have confirmed their attendance:
To confirm your attendance, please add your name to the Doodle Calendar as soon as possible.
The Michael Pittilo Student Essay Prize is awarded each year by The College of Medicine and is open to all degree level health and social care students in the UK.

This year's deadline is 26th June and the essay title is:

“What does personal and professional resilience mean to you? How could this be supported to benefit both your professional life and your patients/clients?”

The Michael Pittilo prize began in 2010 when it was won by CNELM student, Lara Just (pictured above, centre).  The first prize includes £500; publication in the International Therapist Journal and an opportunity to speak at the College of Medicine’s autumn event in London.  There are also cash prizes for 2nd and 3rd runners up and an invitation to the Autumn event to be presented with your certificates.

Are you making the most of your student benefits?

All students enrolled on either the BSc or MSc/PG Dip ‘attendance’ programme, living in the UK and studying full-time can apply for a ‘Student Railcard’. This gives students a 1/3 discount on all rail fares in the UK. The application form for this card can be picked up at any train station within the UK. CNELM also has copies of these forms located at the main reception. The form is technically the 16-25 year old Railcard application; however it is available to all mature students over the age of 25 who are in full-time, attendance higher education. If you wish to apply for this card then please complete this form and return to Dave Lee along with a passport size photograph of yourself.

Please note that this card is not available for part-time or distance learning students.

Oyster Card

For full-time attendance students living within the Greater London area you can also apply for a student ‘18+ Oyster Card’. Application information can found at any local tube station or online.

Please note that for all applications CNELM needs to be entered as the teaching institution not Middlesex University.

NUS Extra Card

If you are 16 or over and studying in Further or Higher Education, either full-time or part-time, you can also apply for an NUS Extra Card. Further details on the discounts and benefits available with an NUS Extra Card are available from their website.
